Van Meter 8th grade lost to Earlham 33-30. The Bulldogs were down big early and clawed back to take a late lead before falling in overtime on Thursday night.
Van Meter trailed 8-5 after one quarter. The Bulldogs remained trailing at the half 16-12. Van Meter played great offense in the third quarter to take the lead 24-20. Then the Bulldogs led 26-24 with a minute left in the game before Earlham made one of two free throws and a two pointer with 22 seconds left to grab the lead. The Bulldogs tied the game on a free throw with only 9 seconds remaining to force overtime 27-27. In overtime, Earlham took control and finished off the Bulldogs 33-30.
Lauren Wallace led the Bulldogs on offense with 7 points and 6 rebounds. Danielle Jones added 6 points and 3 rebounds. Eden Moore and Maddie Waldorf each pitched in with 5 points and 4 rebounds each. Other Bulldog scorers were Kennedy Wiedman (3), Bailey Buerckley (2), and Eve Hyer (2).
The 8th grade fell to 1-1 on the season. They play their first home game of the season Monday night v. Des Moines Christian @ 5:00.
