On Saturday, October 5th, the Bulldogs travelled to Madrid to participate in the Madrid Tournament. The Dogs came away with a 5-0 record and won the championship bracket on the day. The Bulldogs went through many 3 set matches but came away victorious every time.

On the first match, the Bulldogs played Collins-Maxwell. The Bulldogs won in 3 sets with the scores being 21-15, 18-21, and 15-8. Senior Natalie Barth led the team in kills with 9, followed by Freshman Abby Matt and Junior Sidney Nelson with 7 and 6 kills respectively. Spreading out the offense was Junior Emma Braun with 27 assists on the match. Several Bulldogs had hot serving streaks with Junior Norah Matt, Abby Matt, and Barth all collecting 3 aces. Norah Matt also contributed 16 digs with Abby Matt adding in 9 as well. Junior Sydney Rainey topped off the win with a solo block.

Next up, the Bulldogs played Hampton-Dumont Cal. The Bulldogs won this match in 3 sets too, with the scores being 17-21, 21-13, and 15-11. Leading the Bulldogs in kills was standout Senior, Barth, with 16. Braun once again held up 27 assists in this 3 set match. Rainey and Norah Matt had 1 ace serve a piece. Abby Matt contributed a career high 18 digs followed by her sister Norah Matt with 16. Nelson and Rainey put in 1 block assist to help finish the Bulldog win.

The third match in pool play was against Colfax Mingo. The Bulldogs won this match in 2 sets, with the scores being 21-18 and 21-10. The offense was very evenly spread out with Barth and Nelson contributing 6 kills and Abby Matt and Rainey adding in another 5 kills. Braun had 20 assists on this match. Rainey included the lone ace of the game. Norah Matt led the defense with 10 digs followed by Abby Matt with 7.

In the first round of Championship bracket play, the Bulldogs went against the Webster City Lynx. The Bulldogs won this match in another 2 sets, with the scores being 25-15 and 25-21. Barth and Abby Matt both handed out 6 kills, leading the team. Braun contributed by distributing 19 assists and leading the team in ace serves, with 2. The Matt sisters were again on top for digs with Abby having 14 and Norah chipping in 12 of her own. Rainey and Braun landed 1 block assist for the Bulldog win.

In the Championship match the Bulldogs faced the West Marshall Trojans. The Bulldogs came away victorious with the scores of 21-25, 25-8, and 15-8. Several Bulldogs contributed to the distribution of kills resulting in the win. Barth and Abby Matt both had 7 kills a piece, while Rainey and Senior Daelynn Coppinger had 4 kills. Braun dished out 19 assists in this 3 set game. Rainey and Senior Emma Barr held up their own with 2 aces from the serving line. Norah and Abby Matt ran the defense on the Bulldog’s side with 12 and 10 digs respectively. Coppinger was a threat at the net with 4 block assists. Barth and Braun chipped in 2 block assists of their own.

This 5-0 tournament win bumps the Bulldogs up to a 14-6 record. The Dogs can be seen in action again on Tuesday, October 8th, as they take on the Panorama Panthers on their home court. Before the Varsity game begins we will be honoring our 6 Seniors: Emma Barr, Natalie Barth, Daelynn Coppinger, Audrey Gruss, Regan Heckman, and Sammy Jimmerson.
