On Tuesday, September 8th, the Bulldogs travelled to Earlham to face the Cardinals. Van Meter came away with a win with the scores of 25-2, 25-15, and 25-10. Leading the team in kills was Senior Sidney Nelson with 10, followed by Sophomore Abby Matt with 6. Distributing the offense was Senior Emma Braun with 13 and Nelson with 6. Serving was a huge asset for the Bulldogs with Senior Norah Matt going 28/29 from the serving line ending with 17 serves just in the first set and 9 aces overall. Several other Bulldogs went 100% from the serving line including Braun, fellow Senior Josie Durflinger, Junior Zoie Vaught, and Junior Shea Rhodes. Vaught, Nelson, and Abby Matt all contributed 3, 2 and 2 ace serves respectively. Norah Matt led the Bulldogs in digs with 12, while Abby Matt and Nelson contributed 10 digs each. This puts Nelson in her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Emma Gilliland and Junior Sami McDonald chipped in 2 block assists and McDonald added in 1 solo block on the night.
This conference win puts the Bulldogs at a 6-2 record. Van Meter will be back in action next week as they travel to Guthrie Center to take on ACGC on Monday, September 14th, then play Ogden at home on Tuesday, September 15th, and end the week at Des Moines Christian’s quad on Thursday, September 17th.
