The Varsity Baseball Team wrapped up week one of the season with an 8-1 victory over a young Coon Rapids-Bayard squad. The Bulldogs offense was consistent scoring in every inning while the combined pitching effort of four Bulldogs stifled the opposing offense. Anthony Potthoff started on the mound for the Bulldogs, going three innings for his second victory of the season. Zach Pleggenkuhle then got his first work of the season, shutting out the visitors for two innings giving up no hits while striking out three and walking two. Spencer Lamb then worked a scoreless sixth, striking out three, to work out of a bases loaded jam. Kolby Booge closed the game for the Bulldogs, also in his first outing of the season. Booge struck out one and gave up one hit while not allowing a run in his one inning of work.
Marshall Smith led the Bulldogs offense with three hits on the day. Three other Bulldogs had two hits apiece: JJ Durflinger, Brett Berg, and Anthony Potthoff. Durflinger also led the Bulldogs with two runs scored while Sam Thompson led the team with a two RBI performance. The win improves the Bulldogs overall record to 5-0.
