Boys Varsity Cross Country · Boys Cross Country places 5th at Nodaway Valley


The Van Meter boys XC team made the trip to Greenfield on Monday night to compete in their fifth meet of the season. The Bulldogs ran well to compete with some of the top teams in the state. Competition at the meet saw 1A teams #1 Earlham, #2 Nodaway Valley and #3 Madrid in the field. Van Meter picked up a fifth place overall finish with 178 team points. The Bulldogs finished behind Earlham, NV, Madrid and ACGC to pick up a top 5 finish out of the 16 team field.

Carson Wille showed more improvement as he grabbed an 11th place finish. Wille was Van Meter’s only medalist on the night but turned in a career-best performance with a time of 17:40. Dustin Barth narrowly missed a career-best run with a time of 18:41. His previous best was 18:40. Barth finished in 27th position. Zach Pleggenkuhle, Chris Coffie and Ethan Williams were the other top five scorers for the Bulldogs and all hit career-best times. Pleggenkuhle ran 19:43, Coffie ran 19:53 and Williams finished at 20:08.

Van Meter will be back in action Thursday at Saydel. The Bulldogs have the WCAC Meet (10/17) and State Qualifying (10/24) the following two Thursday to round out the season.
