Finally, after a long stretch of rain cancelations, the Van Meter Junior High Cross Country Team had their first race of the year at the ADM golf course. Competing against a tough field of teams, the boys and girls had to make every step count.
As a team, the junior high girls placed 4th overall coming in behind ADM by two points. This was a great team effort led by eighth grader Kadence Wigant who ran a solid time of 14:23, placing 8th overall. Following shortly after Wigant, was Maddie Waldorf (8) with a time of 14:30 placing 11th overall. Next in was Brooklyn Fryar (8) who ran a time of 15:15 placing 22nd. Eve Hyer (8) ran a time of 16:27 placing 45th. A close race between Tessa Schaffer (8) and Emma Bruins ended with Schaffer placing 61th and Bruins (8) placing 63rd. Rounding out the race was Molly Champion (8) who placed 86th, Hannah Lake (8) who placed 94th, and Jolynne Roeder (7) who placed 109th. All the girls ran a good race and we are looking forward to getting even better in the upcoming weeks.
The junior high boys team placed 7th out of 14 teams. Luka Hulse (7) and Chris Wall (8) kept spectators on their toes as they battled each other for who would be the lead runner for the Bulldogs. Hulse ended up taking the title as he placed 18th by running at 13:08. Wall came in only four seconds behind, placing 19th, with a solid time of 13:12. The next runners to finish for the Bulldogs were Reed Chapman (7) with a 14:12 finish and Tate Jones (7) with a 14:13 finish. Kaleb Meyers (8) had a nice run, finishing the race with a time of 14:54. With only five runners, the Bulldogs did an excellent job at competing with the other teams.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next Tuesday at Clarke High School.
