The Van Meter boys cross country team competed in their 3rd meet of the season, last night in Adel at Hillcrest Country Club. The Bulldogs were ready to go after a long three-week layoff in between meets due to weather not cooperating.
The field of competition at this meet was a mix of big schools with ADM, DCG, Urbandale Ballard Norwalk, and Perry. Small schools included WCAC teams Woodward-Granger, WCV, Interstate 35 and DMC.
As a team, Van Meter had a strong fifth-place finish. The Bulldogs finished with 161 points, beating Norwalk, W-G, Saydel, I-35, Perry, and WCV. DMC was the meet champion with 34 points. ADM, Urbandale, and Ballard rounded out the top five with Van Meter.
Van Meter had a good night in individual performances with two top 20 medalist finishes. Carson Wille ran another tough race competing in the top 10 all night. Wille battled all the way to the finish line to grab a 6th place finish. The sixth-place finish was the highest of his career. Dustin Barth also grabbed a medalist spot. Barth fought hard to hold on to his top 20 spot, as the race came to a close. Barth crossed the line in 19th place overall.
Van Meter will run twice next week on Tuesday at Clarke and Thursday at WCV.
