Both the boys and girls track teams ran their best times of the year at the state qualifying meet last Friday at Panora. The girls finished 2nd with 86 points and advance 6 events to state while the boys placed 4th with 75 points and advanced 3 events to state.
The girls placed 1st in two individual events and 3 relays.
In the 400 hurdles Natalie Barth posted a career best time of 68.91 to win the title. Maya Herman captured the 400 meter championship with a time of 61.52. Also advancing to state was Mackenzie Blomgren who was runner up in the 100 in a time of 13.13.
All 3 relays advancing to state set new school records. Cari Walton, Jenna Schlueter, Abby Archer and Natalie Barth re-broke the school record they set earlier in the year with a time of 69.07. The 4X200 team of Mackenzie Blomgren, Shea Rhodes, Nora Matt and Meagn Blomgren ran 1:50.50 to break the record that was established earlier this season.
The 4×400 relay finished first beating Panorama in the most exciting race of the night by .03 to win in 4:12 also establishing a new school record. That team consisted of Matt, Clair Laterbach, Herman and Barth.
The lone champion for the boys was the 4X800 relay. Carson Wille, Jackson Wilcox, Tyler Haynes and Creighton Netten took 12 seconds of their season best time to run 8:22.04. This will be the first time to state for all 4 runners.
The boys has two 2nd place finishes also advancing to state. Kobe Richard ran 53.96 to take 2nd in the 400 meters and Creghton Netten ran 57.7 to be the runner-up in the 400 hurdles.
All qualifiers will run next Thursday and Friday at the state track meet. Van Meter is in the morning session that begins at 9:00 AM both days.
