Finishing one of the most successful seasons in school history the Van Meter boys track team finished 6th in class 2A state track meet. This is the highest placing in the state track meet in school history in addition to being WCAC champions and state qualifying meet champions.
Sam Thompson was the top individual place winner finishing second in the 110 meter high hurdles in a time of 15.29.
The 4-100 meter relay team of Zach Drummond, Thompson, Anthony Lowman and Carson Rhodes also took second in 43.92. The foursome set the school record in the prelims running 43.49 while winning their heat.
Connor Guess took 4th in the shot with season best throw of 53’10”. Derek Golwitzer finished 14th in the shot with a personal best throw of 49’2 1/2″
Anthony Lowman took 5th in the 200 meter dash. Lowman ran a season best 22.55 in the prelims and followed that up by running 22.73 in the finals.
Jack Trudo finished 5th in the 3200 meter running by breaking the 10 minute barrier for the first time in his career clocking at time of 9:59.27. That also establishes a new school record. Trudo also finished 10th in the 1600 in a personal best time of 4:37.86.
The sprint medley team of Drummond, Thompson, Lowman and Rhodes finished 16th in the sprint medley in a time of 1:36.99. The shuttle hurdle relay finished 14th in a time of 1:01.59. Noah Hale and Owen Jones joined Lowman and Thompson to make up that relay.
Jones also jumped a personal best of 5’11” to finish 20th.
Van Meter capped an outstanding season with their perfomance at the state meet.
