Bulldogs News · Depth Leads Boys to WCAC Track Title

Scoring in every event the Van Meter boys track team captured the WCAC team title out distancing second place Madrid 135.25 to 112.25. Earlham was third with 82 points and DMC was 4th with 79.

The meet started well in the field event with Owen Jones winning the high jump with a leap of 5’10” and Connor Guess winning the shot with a throw of 52’2 1/4″. Derek Golwitzer was third in the shot with a throw of 47’8 1/4″.

Anthony Lowman was the conference champion in the 100 (11.29) and 200 (23.09) meter dashes. Carson Rhodes was second in the 200 (23.10) in the closest race of the night. Sam Thompson was first in the 110 high hurdles in a time of 15.61.

The Bulldogs took home first in two relays. The shuttle hurdle team of Jones, Kolby Booge, Noah Hale and Sam Thompson came home first in a time of 1:02.46. The 4-100 meter relay finished first in a new school record time of 44.46. Zach Drummond lead off followed by Thompson, Lowman and Rhodes.

Jack Trudo finished finished third in the 3200 meter run in 10:13.65. The 4-200 ( 1:35.72) team of  Hunter Coyle, Drummond, Calvin Sieck, and Rhodes also placed third.

The 4-800 relay of Blade Koons, Creighton Netten, Jackson Wilcox and JJ Richards ran a season best 8:54.93 to place 4th. Rhodes in the 100 (11.46), Antony Potthoff in the 400 (54.94) and Trudo in the 1600 (4:43.28) also placed 4th in season best times.

Van Meter host the state qualifying meet on Thursday May 10th starting at 4:00 PM.
