Game Recap

The 7th grade Bulldogs faced a high-powered Des Moines Christian football team on Monday October 9th. The game ended in a 6-6 tie, there is no overtime in jr. high football.

The first half was filled with drives ending in failed fourth down conversions or punts back to the other team. No offense could break into the end-zone. The Bulldogs had the ball inside the Lions’ 5 yard line on a 4th and goal in the 2nd quarter, but the pass fell incomplete, resulting in a turnover on downs.

The 3rd quarter started off with Des Moines Christian kicking an onside kick. The kick was recovered by Van Meter and it set them up with good field position, but the Bulldogs handed it right back to the Lions on a fumble. The Lions would then find the end-zone late in the 3rd quarter giving them a 6-0 lead.

In the 4th quarter the Bulldogs down 6-0 with only 1:30 left on the clock Ben Gilliland was able to find Aydn Netten on a 45 yard throw and catch that ended on the 5 yard line. One play later Ben Gilliland was able to punch it in from 5 yards out. On the 2pt conversion DMC made a great play tripping up VM short of the goal line.

DMC got the ball back, but was unable to score before the clock expired. Resulting in a 6-6 tie.

Defensively the Bulldogs held the Lions in check led by the play of Skyler Yazzie, Ben Gilliland, Michael Steinfeldt, Lucas Drummond, and many players who stepped up and made big plays when they were needed.

The final game for the Bulldogs will be on Tuesday, October 17th home vs Panorama.
