In a match-up of two 3-0 teams, Van Meter dominated the game from start to finish in their most complete game of the season. The Bulldogs scored 21 points in the first quarter, were up 28-0 at half and scored two more touchdowns in the 2nd half for a 42-0 win as they moved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Class 1A District #6 play.

JJ Durflinger started the scoring by hauling in a 36 yard pass from Blake Fryar on the Bulldogs opening drive. After the Sam Bardwell PAT, it was 7-0. Just over four minutes later, Carson Rhodes got the Bulldogs on the board again with a 2 yard run. Rhodes struck again behind some strong blocking on a 39 yard run, and after Bardwell tacked on both PATs, Van Meter had control with a 21-0 1st quarter lead.

Van Meter scored once in each of the remaining quarters as Owen Crawford caught 2 touchdown passes from Fryar, once in the 2nd quarter from 10 yards out and again in the 3rd quarter on a 45 yard TD reception, that stretched the Bulldog lead to 35-0. Several reserves saw action for the Bulldogs in the 4th quarter, but Van Meter remained productive as Anthony Potthoff hit Kasey O’Brien for a 5 yard touchdown pass with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. Bardwell was again perfect on his PATs going 6 for 6.

Van Meter amassed 418 yards of total offense (214 rushing and 204 passing) behind a dominant performance by the offensive line of Derek Golwitzer, Collin Godwin, Sean Boles, Connor Guess, Ryan Schmitt and Brett Berg, as well as excellent downfield blocking by all their receivers.

It wasn’t just the offense that was dominant on this night as the Bulldog defense kept the South Hamilton offense off track for the entire game. Van Meter limited the Hawks to only 74 total yards (53 rushing and 21 passing) and only 6 first downs. JJ Durflinger had an interception and Sam Thompson lead a very balanced effort defensively with 4 solo tackles and 8 assists. Other Bulldogs leading the way defensively included Crawford (1 solo & 6 assists), Golwitzer (1 solo & 7 assists including 1 asst TFL), Guess (1 solo & 5 assists including 2 asst TFL) and Noah Hale (6 assists).
