Game Recap

The Van Meter softball team rallied late to stun Earlham in the Regional Quarterfinal 7-6.

Van Meter trailed 6-0 through five innings. In the sixth, Mackenzie Blomgren got the offense rolling with a one out double. She was driven in by Lilly Thompson’s double putting the Bulldogs on the board 6-1. Haley Forret followed with an RBI double of her own making it 6-2. Meagan Blomgren reached on an error and Abby Archer hit a two run single making the score 6-4 after six.

In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Mackenzie Blomgren reached on an infield single. She stole second and Lilly Thompson reached on an error. Thompson stole second and the Bulldogs had second and third with two outs. Mackenzie Blomgren would come home on a passed ball making the score 6-5. With one strike on her Meagan Blomgren tripled into the right center field gap scoring Thompson. On her way to third, Earlham threw the ball away and Blomgren scored on the wild throw to win the game 7-6.

Haley Forret was the winning pitcher (5-0). She pitched 7 innings allowing 7 runs, allowing 5 earned on 9 hits. She also struck out 4 batters.

Van Meter survives and advances to Friday night’s Regional Semi-final. They will travel to Truro to take on #3 I-35 @ 7:00PM.
